Secret Signs

December 15th, 2009

Good morning! Don’t let this Houston fog bog you down. For the Festival of Lights, do something today that shines a light on your love for your child.

One fun idea might be to make up a secret, just-between-the-two-of-you sign that means “I love you.” A special handshake, a wink or a made-up word can do the trick.

What are some other secret signs you and your child exchange to communicate “I love you”?

List of love

Happy Hanukkah, all! How have you been celebrating the holiday?

Here’s an idea, if you’re all out: Make a list with your children of all the things you are thankful for this holiday season. At the top of your list, write your child’s name. Your child will feel cherish and loved.

Happy Hanukkah!

December 11th, 2009

Hanukkah begins at sundown today and the holidays are in full swing.

Parents, round your family up tonight and give your children the gift of unconditional love!

Try this: When lighting a Menorah candle together, explain to your child that love is like a light in a dark place, and that you love them very much.

Festival of Lights

December 11th, 2009

Beginning at sundown tomorrow,I’m encouraging families to give the gift of unconditional love each night of Hanukkah and to remember how important the words “I love you” can be!

Hanukkah is a beautiful tradition that emphasizes the importance of family, the significance of being a light to your children, and the reason for the season: love. Hanukkah is celebrated by a series of rituals performed every day, including the singing of familiar prayers, eating potato latkes, giving gifts to the children each night throughout the 8-day holiday and lighting of a special 9-branched candelabrum called the Menorah.

Stay tuned to my blog for ideas on ways parents can express their love and encouragement during Hanukkah. And don’t forget to become a friend and a fan on Facebook (Sheila Aron) and Twitter (SheilaAron)!
